When you arrive at the Bangkok Boarding House, you will be joining a vibrant international community from a number of different nations. This means you will enjoy and be challenged by living alongside others from different cultures, world views and philosophies, religions – possibly all to be experienced whilst living in a new country. This can be exciting and demanding; challenging and frustrating. You will be stretched!
Democracy means we try to involve Boarders in the decision making processes within the Boarding House. We are open to your initiatives and ideas. Boarders’ representatives are elected and join the School Principal and other senior management staff at the weekly Boarding Committee. Boarders have set up and run specific activities such as the Boarders Choir and Boarders Volleyball. Thus, also providing the chance for leadership and service too.
Weekend activities and the midterm vacations provide the opportunity for Boarders to be adventurous and explore Bangkok and its wider locality via chaperoned visits. This is an opportunity to try out new things whether it is overcoming a fear of heights ascending Bangkok’s tallest tower; learning how to dive at the island of Koh Chang or cycling for the first time at Phra Padaeng. Some activities will have a clear environmental goal such as the much loved beach cleanup. Specific round square activities and trips will also be arranged where Boarders can join together with their day student friends.
In the Boarding House we expect you to study to the best of your ability. We also expect you to reach out to others from different countries, befriend and assist them with their studies and in so doing act as a positive role model. We expect you to have a modest dress code. You will most probably be a guest in Thailand, not as a tourist but as a representative of your country. Dress codes for everyday life in Thailand are different from western society and you will find you are asked to dress more conservatively than you are probably used to.
We can promise you a challenging, stretching, exciting, stimulating experience as a Boarder. There could be times of acute homesickness but there will be times spent creating friendships and memories that will last for the rest of your life. We look forward to sharing this with you.
